Starting this year, Global Best Practice certifications will be issued with a 3-years validity.
Which certifications will come with a renewal requirement?
All candidates with a PeopleCert Global Best Practice certification listed below can choose to renew within 3 years of their original certification dates:
- ITIL® 4
- PRINCE2® 5th and 6th
- PRINCE2 Agile®
- MSP® 4th and 5th
- M_o_R® 3rd and 4th
- MoP®
- P3O®
- MoV®
- AgileSHIFT®
- RESILIA®
Do you have to renew your certification?
All candidates with relevant Global Best Practice certifications will have the option to renew within three years of their original certification dates. This means:
- If you were certified before 30 June 2020: You will have until 1 July 2023 to choose to renew your certification(s), regardless of your original award date.
- If you were certified after June 2020: You will have the option to renew your certification(s) within 3 years of the original award date.
Your “renew-by” date can be viewed in your PeopleCert account.
Candidates that choose not to renew will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) and the Candidate Verification Service, however, a note will be added to their record indicating that their certification needs to be renewed to meet current certification requirements.
How do you renew your certification?
Currently, there are 2 ways to renew your PeopleCert/Axelos certifications:
- Elevate your skills and knowledge by attending another course within the same product suite and taking the exam before the renewal date.
- Retake the same exam by which you were certified before the renewal date.
A third renewal path will be available starting March 2023:
- Collect and log CPD points: You will have the option to renew your certification through collecting and logging CPD points. Further information about this path will be provided shortly.
Current MyAxelos subscribers can continue to log their CPD points, as before.

All candidates with relevant Global Best Practice certifications will be given the option to renew, this means that:
- If you were certified before 30 June 2020: You will have until 1 July 2023 to choose to renew your certification(s), regardless of your original award date.
- If you were certified after June 2020: You will have the option to renew your certification(s) within 3 years of the original award date.
Your renew-by date can be viewed in your PeopleCert account.
Candidates that choose not to renew their certification within 3 years of the award date (or before 1st July 2023 for those who obtained their certification during or before June 2020) will still be included on the Successful Candidates Register (SCR) but a note will be added to their record to indicate that their certification is not aligned with current certification requirements.
Certification renewal requirements will not be applied to ITIL® v3 certifications.
If you have more than one certificate from the same product suite (eg ITIL 4), they will all share the same renewal date, which is 3 years after the most recent exam taken.
For example, if you took ITIL 4 Foundation on 1st January 2021 and ITIL 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support on 1 January 2022, both of your ITIL 4 certificates will have a renewal date of 1 January 2025.
To renew a certification, you have options within the same product suite. An ITIL® 4 certification will not be renewed by obtaining a PRINCE2® certification, but could be renewed by taking any other ITIL 4® certification, such as ITIL® 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support.

- ITIL® 4 Product Suite: All ITIL® 4 certifications
- Project, Programme & Portfolio Management Product Suite: PRINCE2®, PRINCE2® Agile, MoR®, MSP®, MoV®, MoP®, P3O®
- AgileSHIFT® Product Suite: All AgileSHIFT® certifcations
- RESILIA® Product Suite: All RESILIA® certifications
